Anthology opened its online doors in late 2009. But in reality, it began a long time ago.
My journey to start Anthology has gone through many a long and winding road. It really began back in the late 80's when I packed up and left the midwest for the big city of Los Angeles to study music at the Guitar Institute of Technology.
Up to that point, my young career as a musician was limited to garage bands whose set list was as diverse as Zeppelin to Sabbath, or from Judas Priest to RATT. I was a rocker through and through. If you'd mentioned Coltrane, Bill Monroe, or Yo Yo Ma to me, you'd likely get a glazed over look in my eyes, followed by..."Your what hurts?"
That's where Anthology really began, when my ears and eyes were opened to a larger world of music. I remember the shock when I first heard bluegrass players tear apart any shredder I'd ever heard. Or when I first heard the most transformational musician of our time, Charlie Parker. There was more to music than my young mind had first understood, and I was embarking on a quest to discover what that was.
