The Way It Is.
There’s a thread you follow. It goes among things that change. But it doesn’t change. People wonder about what you are pursuing. You have to explain about the thread. But it is hard for others to see. While you hold it you can’t get lost. Tragedies happen; people get hurt or die; and you suffer and get old. Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding. You don’t ever let go of the thread.
- William Stafford
When we purchased Anthology Gear in December of 2017, we were definitely changing course from the path we had been on for quite some time. But, as we hold on tight to this thread and head in this new direction, nothing has felt more right. El Camino pays tribute to the path we are destined to follow in life.
FEATURES OF THIS LEATHER GUITAR STRAP WITH SOUTHWEST FABRIC:
Width: Available in 2" and 3" width
Length:
• Strap adjusts from 39" - 54" (See our Instragram post for Tongue Tying Tricks)
• For a long guitar strap (adjusts from 54" - 63"), add optional Jumbo Tongue (sold separately).
Top Leather: Aged Steel (rugged full-grain leather)
Bottom Leather: Deer Black (soft full-grain leather)
All Anthology leather guitar and bass straps are hand-made with the absolute finest quality full-grain leathers in the world. Our leathers are chosen for their ability to fully distribute the weight of the guitar across the strap, for a more comfortable playing experience on those long gigs.
Our leather guitar straps are not only great looking; they're also super-comfortable. Between a top layer of rugged full-grain leather and southwest fabric, and a bottom layer of ultra-soft full-grain leather, we use a high-density, premium padding, to maximize comfort without sacrificing strength. We give the guitarist the best of both worlds, a streamlined padded guitar strap. Comfortable and durable with style!
Even better, we use only the strongest industrial grade threads, the same threads used to make parachutes and airbags. That's strength you can trust.
To top it off, our leather burnishes and beautifies with use. All of our leather guitar straps have their natural marks, scrapes and scars, which means they have loads of raw, rugged personality.
El Camino is offered in both 2" and 3" widths. We offer a 2" width for those looking for a more streamlined look. If you're looking for the most comfortable strap, we recommend the 3" width. The 3" does more work to distribute the weight of the guitar.
If you’re buying as a gift and don’t have access to measure the current strap, or you just can’t wait until you get home to take the measurement, there are several factors to consider:
The main functional issue with respect to buying a guitar strap online is getting the length right. Our straps are measured from attachment hole to hole. The best way to determine your ideal length, or that of the musician you’re buying for, is to measure the previous strap. If you don’t have a strap to reference for whatever reason, we’ve assembled some general guidelines for length (supplemented with this friendly disclaimer: if you find our standard strap is too short, you can always add a jumbo tongue).
Elements to consider:
1. Player height and weight:
• In general, players who are 6’ and under, and average weight, should be fine with a standard length strap.
• Players over 6’, or with more weight, could use a jumbo tongue.
2. Electric or acoustic:
• Because acoustic guitar bodies are deeper, guitar players 5’10” and over will likely prefer a strap with the jumbo tongue.
3. Placement of attachment pegs:
• The strap attachment peg on the guitar can be in a couple of places. On some guitars the peg is at the top of the bout; on others, it’s placed where the guitar neck meets the body of the guitar. In the case of the latter, a few more inches will be needed, and a jumbo tongue might be the way to go.
4. How low or high the player holds their guitar:
• If the player is a rocker, with their guitar a bit below the waist, a jumbo tongue might be the way to go.
• If the player holds the guitar from the waist up, our standard length strap should do the trick.

adjective
1. not revealing one's thoughts or feelings readily
2. restrained in expression, presentation, or appearance
Being a musician is about allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. Whether it’s putting ourselves out into the world via a recording or a live performance, it means putting ourselves out for everyone to hear, judge, and analyze. This can be a difficult thing for many of us to accomplish, but also can be intensely rewarding and liberating as one lets their creativity flow. The Reticent to me symbolizes the introverted, guarded, somewhat inhibited person I am that struggles with allowing myself to be vulnerable. However, when paired with the more gregarious guitar (and perhaps also with the always appreciated extroverted front man), I allow all those bottled up thoughts and feelings to flow freely. I don’t want a loud or obnoxious strap to tell my story. I want the thick, strong, durable comfort of an Anthology Gear full grain leather strap ... rugged, honest, beautifully imperfect. And I’ll tell my story through my music. Reticently.

My granddad Everett wore argyle socks and they fit him perfectly. Sophisticated and classy. And, at the same time, quirky and rebellious. This was Everett.
Everett was a very successful businessman. He worked door-to-door for most of his twenties, then city-to-city and eventually continent to continent as he got older. He liked to sample the local beers during his travels and managed to accumulate quite a large bottle cap collection from all over the world. In his free time he read books and taught himself to speak fluently in a handful of different languages. There was a lot about life that he loved such as giving out business advice (whether you wanted it or not), singing along with the opera he listened to on the radio, and showing off his impressive recollection of the bad words he picked up in all the countries he visited throughout his life.
When he finally settled down, he played golf every Sunday (in argyle socks, of course). He caught a ride on the back of his grandson's Harley to the golf course. He also began practicing yoga at the flexible age of 90. And he never left a party without reciting at least one cringe-worthy limerick for the guest of honor.
From the time I could crawl until the day we buried him, I never saw that man without a pair of argyle socks peaking out from the bottom of his trousers. Classy sophistication, with a bit of fun and rebellion. This was Everett. Argyle fit him perfectly. Maybe it fits you too.

NOTE: This cymbal bag was never used, only shown at NAMM. It is an older model with only one D-ring on the front (our current model has two D-rings for attaching our stick bag).
Cymbals are a drummer’s exclamation points. When you luck into a genuine rhythm master on the kit, those precise bursts and crashes become guitar riff punctuation, pushing you forward, super-charging your playing — a contribution we value all the more knowing how drummers select and care for their cymbals with the same degree of obsessive intensity a guitarist focuses on maintaining his amps and rig.
In fact, a great drummer can lift everyone and everything higher while, without rock-solid hands on the kit, forget it. Nothing is happening.
How they do it, we don’t know, but the paradox of drummers is that they have to let loose like there’s no tomorrow while also holding it all together without the slightest lapse. And they consistently do so without a rest and without a net, because drummers are the net for the rest of us — and we fall back on them all the time. Despite this indispensable role, they get taken for granted way, way too much, but guitarists know better than anyone how drummers ace the tightest tight rope act in music. Especially playing live.
The indefatigable brilliance of a great drummer, and how they add subtle textures and dynamic intensity to shape a song, is something we depend upon and cherish so completely, it was essential that we honor these fellow road warriors with a functional and beautiful Anthology Gear Wear tribute — in this case, The Seville cymbal bag, ideal for transporting and safeguarding that precious gear.
Musicality with that much style and technical skill warrants some leather swagger.
