Check out our "Quick Six" Q&A with Anthology Artist Taylor Hollingsworth

We thought it would be fun to get to know a little bit more about our Anthology Artists. Here's the "Quick Six" Q&A with Taylor Hollngsworth, the fingerpicking songwriter from Birmingham, AL:

  1. First concert you attended?
I believe the first big concert I attended was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers back in 1994!
  1. How old were you when you started playing the guitar?
This would be that same year in 1994. I was 14.
  1. Venue you would love to play at (or a dream venue that you have already played at)?
Hmmm, not sure if I have ever dreamed about playing a particular venue as an adult. When i was young I just really wanted to play at the Nick in my hometown of Birmingham because so many legends had played there. But now I have played there a million times and still do a monthly residency.
  1. Artist or song you are into most right now?
Hmmm, a few songs I have recently been obsessed with are: It Must Be Gelatine by your very own local hero, Michael Hurley, Handleman’s Revenge and Juice both by Todd Snider, and Heathens by Drive By Truckers.
  1. Do you have any pre-show rituals or superstitions?
Eat my gummy right before I play not to early. Want it to kick in after I'm already comfy cozy, not before I start. Then i get freaked out!
  1. Who has inspired you most as a musician?
Hmmmm, I’ve been inspired by far too many musicians to even list. The ones who inspire me typically are not big famous stars, they are people that I can relate with. I'm inspired when I see folks make a living outside the of the norms. Musicians who make art for the sake of the art and figure out ways to continue. The longer someone has been at it, the more interesting they are to me usually. Michael Hurley has been inspiring to me. Paul Westerberg's Grandpa boy era was inspiring to me. William Onyeabor and Victor Uwaifo are inspiring. Jack Oblivion is inspiring. Folks like that. Also felt inspired learning about a lot of the old solo blues players who played local all the time and kept residency’s. That’s a big part of how I learned to make a living.
