The Reticent

ret·i·cent
adjective
1. not revealing one's thoughts or feelings readily
2. restrained in expression, presentation, or appearance

Being a musician is about allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. Whether it’s putting ourselves out into the world via a recording or a live performance, it means putting ourselves out for everyone to hear, judge, and analyze. This can be a difficult thing for many of us to accomplish, but also can be intensely rewarding and liberating as one lets their creativity flow. The Reticent to me symbolizes the introverted, guarded, somewhat inhibited person I am that struggles with allowing myself to be vulnerable. However, when paired with the more gregarious guitar (and perhaps also with the always appreciated extroverted front man), I allow all those bottled up thoughts and feelings to flow freely. I don’t want a loud or obnoxious strap to tell my story. I want the thick, strong, durable comfort of an Anthology Gear full grain leather strap ... rugged, honest, beautifully imperfect. And I’ll tell my story through my music. Reticently.

The Great, The Concern and Absolutely NO UGLY

Today I received my first Anthology Gear Strap - Reticent Aged Steel in 3" Width. I purchased mine through Amazon. First - Craftsmanship and Materials are outstanding. Based on the images of these straps, I had expected the leather to be considerable stiffer than it is. I have this strap attached to a light guitar and it is extremely comfortable. I have for years used straps from that Major Canadian Leather company that is all over and I have been happy overall with their product, but definitely always open to trying new product. I am going to use the strap for a few months as I decide whether or not I will be ordering more (as the honeymoon period starts, that idea is a very likely future action). My one concern was that I expected a little more padding. Luckily, I am not using any truly heavy guitars at this time, so I really do not think that it will be a problem, the 3" width should adequatly disperse the instrument weight through practice and performing with the padding that is there. That said, there are a lot of Bassist with heavy instruments using these straps with great satisfaction. I have just grown accustomed to what is on the strap that I have been using. Beyond that, this strap is absolutely gorgeous, appears to have top notch craftmanship and the quailty of leather is incredible and should age well. Pretty sure that the future will have me in possession of a few more.

Everything I could want in a strap…

This strap is beautifully designed, well-made, and complements the good looks of my guitar. As it ages, it will break in, both in looks and in suppleness. Further, the price is more than reasonable, There are lesser straps on the market for a lot more money. Recommended without reservation.

Excellent simple quality strap

Love the strap. Very high quality, excellent craftsmanship, comfortable for my beast of a 1987 Gibson Les Paul Custom. Hope to buy more for my other Les Pauls and my PRS 594 Singlecut!
