The Reticent

ret·i·cent
adjective
1. not revealing one's thoughts or feelings readily
2. restrained in expression, presentation, or appearance

Being a musician is about allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. Whether it’s putting ourselves out into the world via a recording or a live performance, it means putting ourselves out for everyone to hear, judge, and analyze. This can be a difficult thing for many of us to accomplish, but also can be intensely rewarding and liberating as one lets their creativity flow. The Reticent to me symbolizes the introverted, guarded, somewhat inhibited person I am that struggles with allowing myself to be vulnerable. However, when paired with the more gregarious guitar (and perhaps also with the always appreciated extroverted front man), I allow all those bottled up thoughts and feelings to flow freely. I don’t want a loud or obnoxious strap to tell my story. I want the thick, strong, durable comfort of an Anthology Gear full grain leather strap ... rugged, honest, beautifully imperfect. And I’ll tell my story through my music. Reticently.

Comfort, simplicity, style & great price!

I’ve been fortunate enough to purchase 3 of these straps and I can’t say enough about how great they are, all around!
As the title mentions, they’re extremely comfortable, simple but stylish, a great price and with a quality that I’ve yet to experience in any guitar strap!
Thank you, Anthology! I’ll be back for more

Best leather strap I could find

I've had my eyes out for a good leather strap for a few years now. Everything else out there falls into one of three camps: pure junk; straps made by well-regarded companies, but with questionable leather (they won't tell you where it comes from, but use telltale terms like "genuine leather"), and straps made by artisans out of great full-grain leather, usually sold on Etsy shops—but who maybe don't know much about guitar and bass players.

Anthology brings the good materials together with an understanding of what musicians want. I'm very happy with this strap. When I wrote to ask details about the leather, they were forthcoming about the tannery. I'm surprised they don't advertise this ... it's one of the better tanneries in Mexico, with a reputation for quality products and for being a leader in sustainability.

It would be cool if they offered vegetable-tanned leathers as an option. These tend to be stiffer when new, but break in beautifully and often wear more nicely than chrome-tanned. But this is very nice chrome-tanned leather, and is probably lower maintenance than veg-tanned.

It's also very comfortable. My other bass has a "comfort strap" on it — revered by grandpas and long-suffering rockers with back and nerve problems. But I can say that the Anthology is just as comfortable, and looks much, much better than that dorky thing.

Wider than 2"

I bought the Reticent strap recently and like it a lot. The quality is topnotch and it's comfortable. My only beef is that the 2" strap I ordered is closer to 2.5". I'm not crazy about wide straps and would have preferred the actual 2" advertised. Still, these guys do great work.

Great strap!

I recently ordered THE RETICENT - WHISKEY BROWN LEATHER GUITAR STRAP. It arrived on my doorstep about 4 business days after I had ordered. The strap was exactly as described. It's really quality leather and it came packaged in a nice burlap Anthology branded bag (Which was a really nice touch that was unexpected). I purchased the 2" version and he strap is quite comfortable. I use it with my sunburst Gibson ES335 and the Whiskey Brown color blends well. If you like the smell of leather, you will love this strap!

The only (not so much as a negative) suggestion that I would make would be to make the long tongue option standard. Or come up with an "in-between" size that works for both. Or, at least offer it as an option rather than an additional purchase. I'm only 6' tall and I'd like just a little more length. That's the only reason that I rated a 4 instead of a 5. All in all, the workmanship is wonderful and I'm going to be recommending Anthology Gear to my friends.

best strap ever

This is the first review I have ever written. As a usual thing I don't do reviews however this is one that I just felt led to write. I puschased the Reticent-Whiskey Brown Leather Guitar Strap and It came the very first week that I ordered it. It is a positively beautiful strap and exactly what it was presented to be. I couldn't be happier with it. I wish every company was as diligent as Anthology Gear. It would make life so much easier. Thank you for doing such a good job.
